14. Album Evaluation

Research
For research we did album research and looked at loads of different album covers and wrote about them by accessing them.
For example this is one of our pieces of work where we wrote about the images, typography. the layout and colour of each of these albums. This helped us think about what we want on our final album cover. for example what typography we wanted what colours we were going to us ect.

We also accessed two back covers by writing about the things we saw on them. for example we wrote about the image on the back cover and we said what we thought it ment and why it is there. This helped us as it showed us what we need on our back covers to get highest marks possible on them.
I have learnt that gender representation in music videos is that generally females are represented in a more sexual way most of the time half naked where as males are always wearing clothes.
We have wrote about various different album covers and asseced them properly. This should have given us an idea of what we need on our own album covers to give us good marks.

www: I worked hard and found out alot
I spent alot of time researching
I feel it helped me alot when it come to planning

EBI: I should have researched specific things to help me
I should have done more research individally in my own time
I should have worked 100% in every single lesson!

What I have learnt about conventions and representations of gender

i have learnt that in music videos the representation of gender is very different for boys and for girls. for example girls are always represented sexually and most of the time half naked. where as men are usually fully clothed and are represented as if they own the women. conventions are very stereotypical; for example if you think hip hop you think a man with a chain and baggy jeans. if you think metal you think loud music shouting.

Planning

For planning we drew a draft of our back and front covers.

For our plan of our album covers on our drafts we wrote about the image, typography, colour, layout and genre. This would give us an idea of what we need to improve on our photoshop draft to get higher marks.
So next on our planning we made photoshop drafts of our front and back album covers.

Here are my photoshop drafts of my album cover. this is not the final cover this is a random picture that in our final photoshop covers will be changed to a picture taken from myself. This was our last chance to make any improvements before we made our final album cover.
I used photoshop by getting a back ground and picture off of google and putting it on photoshop/ my cover. I then stretched out the background so it covered the whole page and magic wonder the picture to get rid of the background that google put on it. I then added in my heading and writing. I did the exact same thing for my back cover just with a different picture using the same background.
When we made these they were ment to give us an idea of what we need to improve and make better when creating our final album covers.

WWW: I worked hard and got it done
my photoshop drafts look good
my album cover drafts (photoshop and dawn) are bright colours which match my genre of pop
they look pop which means i am people that like pop will buy this album

EBI: I  should have worked harder on the drawn albums drafts (front and back)
should have done evreything to the best of my ability

Production

Our production is our final album front and back covers.

These are my two final album covers. I have taken a picture of someone else and taken of the random picture so now it is a photo taken from myelf so now it is completely my own work.

I used photoshop by getting a back ground of google and  taking a picture myself and taking it of the camera then i put it onto the computer then onto photoshop. I then put it onto photoshop/ my cover how i wanted it to bep. I then stretched out the background so it covered the whole page and magic wonder the picture to get rid of the background that google put on it. I then added in my heading and writing. I did the exact same thing for my back cover just with a different picture using the same background.
I have learnt that i need to work harder on this production in order to get higher marks as this is not to the best of my ability i can do much better than this.

WWW: It looks good and i took my time trying to make it look good.
I put in features to make it look better
I tried to make the picture cartoon

EBI: I should have taken more care on my covers
Could have animated the image better
Should have used my time more productively.

Overall i feel as though i should have worked faster in getting my work done and completed everything to the best of my ability. I should have worked more constructively and come back after school to try and completed it quicker than i did as it took longer than it should have.

7. laura mulvey- male gaze essay

Laura Mulvey Essay

Laura Mulvey’s theory applies to the music videos “Dirty” and “Do it Like a Dude” because both videos invite the audience to view the artists as objects of desire.  This is done through the camera shots and angles used, the fact the video is presented in a voyeuristic way to the audience, and the way the artist interacts with others in the video.

In Christina Aguilera’s video of “Dirty” the use of the camera invites sexual gaze by following Christina as she dances suggestively in very reveling clothing making the audience see the video in voyeuristic way as all the males in the video can only watch as Christina and the other female actors are seen as a object of desire. This theme occurs throughout the video but in some ways becomes more explicit as dances start to grind on other male actors and even more provocative dancing.

In Jessie J’s video of “Do it Like a Dude” the use of the camera invites sexual gaze , as the video intends the viewer to . The video shows women doing quite manly things in a gender reversal where jessie j and the other female dancers are dancing in a very aggressive male way however Jessie J is still wearing feminine clothing

The audience views this video in a voyeuristic way in the beginning sequence when Jessie and her friends are doing the stereotypical male things in the behind the scenes however once the video

The actors interact in a way that results in the female being looked at as an object of desire. This occurs when …
.

The target audience for these two artists is young females.  However, the way they represent themselves as sexual objects does not appeal to young girls, it appeals more to men.  I believe Christina Aguilera and Jesse J choose to represent themselves like this because

In summary, Laura Mulvey’s theory applies to these music videos because ….
